Women of Earth returned to its roots this past week touring the final cut around each of the three communities featured in the film. With the project newly completed, we wanted to be sure we first honored our partnership with its subjects; the female midwives, healers, and community leaders who shared their stories.

With the project newly completed, we wanted to be sure we first honored our partnership with its subjects; the female midwives, healers, and community leaders who shared their stories. With each stop, popcorn, soda and chocolate cake were served, tears were shed and magic ensued.
We first landed in Mama Zezé’s community of Alto do Moura – Pernambuco, where we held three screenings. The first, an intimate gathering of 80 people, was held in the playground Zezé had built soon after she became a council woman. The event was so well-received, a neighbor asked if we could also screen the film. So we set up our gear and headed to a school yard on the other side of town to share with another intimate audience. Our last night, we had the opportunity to screen in the Earth Museum in the neighboring town of Caruaru – Pernambuco.
Next, we traveled to Zefa da Guia’s little town of Serra da Guia – Sergipe. With only the church wall as the screen, more than 150 people showed up to celebrate Zefa and her story. We were in awe of the show of support and enthusiasm.
Our last stop was to see Dona d’Ajuda in Arraial Dájuda – Bahia, where we held three screenings. First in Peki Coffee Cinema Guest House, then in the center of d’Ajuda’s community, with 80 people in attendance, and finally, a cozy screening in Cultura Mix Guest House.
Each of the women were touched to see their story and community honored on such a large scale and it reminded us why we set out on this journey so long ago. We hope to share their stories so that others might be moved to preserve the power of midwives, healers, shamans, and other feminine leaders who we so badly need in modern society.
Here’s to the gathering of many more sacred communities around the world and a screening tour that will ignite conversations around maternal health and wisdom in 2020.

Mulheres da Terra voltou às suas raízes na semana passada, percorrendo com p corte final em torno de cada uma das três comunidades apresentadas no filme. Com o projeto recém-concluído, queríamos ter certeza de que primeiro iríamos honrar nossa parceria com as personagens; as parteiras, curandeiras e líderes da comunidade que compartilharam suas histórias. A cada parada, lágrimas eram derramadas e a magia se seguia.
Aterrissamos pela primeira vez na comunidade de Mama Zezé, no Alto do Moura, onde realizamos três sessões. A primeira, uma reunião íntima de 80 pessoas, foi realizada no parquinho que Zezé construiu logo depois que ela se tornou vereadora. O evento foi tão bem recebido que um vizinho perguntou se também poderíamos exibir o filme aonde ele morava. Então montamos nosso equipamento e fomos para o pátio da escola do outro lado da comunidade para compartilhar com outro público. Em nossa última noite, tivemos a oportunidade de exibir no Museu do Barro, na cidade vizinha de Caruaru.
Em seguida, viajamos para a pequena cidade de Serra da Guia – Sergipe, de Zefa da Guia. Na parede da igreja como tela, exibimos o filme para mais de 150 pessoas que apareceram para celebrar a história de Zefa. Ficamos admirados com a demonstração de apoio e entusiasmo.
Nossa última parada foi para ver Dona d’Ajuda em Arraial Dájuda, onde realizamos três sessões. Primeiro no Café, pousada Peki, depois na escola Pataxó da comunidade d’Ajuda, com 80 pessoas presentes e, finalmente, uma exibição aconchegante na Cultura Mix Guest House.
Cada uma das mulheres ficou emocionada ao ver sua história e sua comunidade serem homenageadas em uma escala tão grande e isso nos lembrou o por que partimos nessa jornada há tanto tempo. Esperamos compartilhar suas histórias para que outras pessoas sejam movidas a preservar o poder de parteiras, curandeiras, xamãs e outras líderes femininas de que tanto precisamos na sociedade moderna.
Aqui está a reunião de muitas outras comunidades sagradas ao redor do mundo e um tour de triagem que iniciará conversas sobre saúde e sabedoria materna em 2020 e além.
